Cabinet door style is the single most visible design decision in a kitchen remodel. The door style you choose sets the tone for the entire space — whether it reads as traditional, transitional, contemporary, or somewhere in between.
Shaker is the most popular cabinet door style in Northeast Ohio and across the country. The shaker door — characterized by a flat center panel with a simple frame — is clean, versatile, and works in virtually every kitchen style from traditional to contemporary. It's the definition of transitional design: at home in a 1950s Euclid ranch and a 2020 Solon new build alike.
Raised panel doors have a center panel that is raised above the frame, creating a more dimensional, traditional look. They're the classic choice for traditional and formal kitchen styles — common in older Cleveland-area homes and in the more traditional neighborhoods of Mentor, Willoughby, and Beachwood.
Slab doors are a single flat piece with no frame and no raised or recessed panel. They're the most contemporary option and work best in modern and minimalist kitchen designs. In Northeast Ohio, slab doors are increasingly popular in newer construction and contemporary renovations.
Glass-front cabinet doors add visual depth and a display opportunity to upper cabinets. They're available in clear glass, seeded glass, frosted glass, and leaded glass. They work in virtually every style and are particularly effective when used selectively on two or four upper cabinet doors.
Two-tone kitchens have been one of the most consistent trends in the Northeast Ohio kitchens we've designed. The most popular combinations: white uppers with navy lowers, white perimeter with a forest green island, gray uppers with a warm wood-tone island.
Based on the kitchens Bear Cabinetry has designed and installed across Northeast Ohio in 2025 and 2026: shaker doors in painted finishes (navy, forest green, and warm white are the most requested), two-tone designs with a contrasting island, and selective glass-front doors on upper cabinets.
